Nautical Stripes | Timeless Summer Style

Summer's not over just yet, and that means it's still chic to style up your best nautical looks. I happened upon this darling Ahoy Shift by Maeve at Anthropologie and immediately fell in love. I easily could have played up some red accessories for a fun 4th or Labor Day outfit. For me it felt a little too much like a costume when I did. In this case I kept it simple and easy with a splash of color for an ensemble that remains both timeless and cool for the summer.

When it comes to summer, I live in light airy dresses. Nothing gets my heart beating faster than a cute summer sundress. This nautical shift was no exception. Timeless style is always on trend.

Know When to Wrap it Up

3 Reasons to Wrap Up Your Hair:

1. It's Hot

2. Your Hair is Dirty

3. It Compliments the Look, i.e. This look is all about showing off your upper body.

D. All of the above ;)

I really wanted my yellow bandana for this one but I couldn't find it, ugh. This white one worked in a pinch though. In fact, I think I like it better.

Dainty and Neutral
Details

I used to love long dangly chandelier earrings. Call it the passage of trends, or simply motherhood, whatever the reason these days I typically opt for studs. I love these rhinestone anchors. Simplicity with a little bit of bling. And you can't go wrong with a pair of classic cat eye sunnies, and cognac leather strappy heels. So many ways to style these.

Pop of Color

This look screams for a pop of red or yellow... or both in this case. Keeping with my summer looks so far, I brought in the famous yellow bag. I couldn't bring myself to do anything but a bright red lip to pop on this mostly neutral palate.

Fit and Sizing

I have purchased a few Maeve dresses and usually I am true to size in a Medium. For this Ahoy Shift though, I had to size down to a Small as the dress was very baggy. The fabric is not stretchy at all so don't plan for any give. It's pull over styling with no zipper so make sure to get ready with the dress on to avoid messing up your hair or getting that red lipstick on your crisp new dress. It is lined, but make sure to keep the dress away from velcro. Velcro or anything that can snag will ruin the fabric promptly. Bonus! Thanks to the structured fit and bow front design, you can easily get away with going bra free. Wohoo!

What are your favorite summer trends? I love hearing about your personal style and what you'd love to see on Amy West Travel. Give me a shout in the comments below.

Until then...

Enjoy the Journey!
